Iraqi minority vows to die
Posted on August 31, 2014
Iraqi government Crisis is far from over and the war torn country fighting pitched battle. The Government forces mainly composed of Kurdish peshmerga fighters and armed volunteers have broken through the Islamic State group siege on the town of Amerli located between Baghdad, and the northern city of Kirkuk, sources have told Al Jazeera.
Iraqi forces and the armed volunteers entered the city on Sunday, where at leat 12,000 people have been trapped for over two months with dwindling food and water.
“Our forces entered Amerli and broke the siege,” security spokesman Lieutenant General Qassem Atta told the AFP news agency.
Adel al-Bayati, mayor of Amerli, also confirmed the report to Reuters news agency saying that government forces are now “inside” the town, adding that it “will definitely relieve the suffering of residents.”
Al Jazeera’s Sue Turton, reporting from Tuz Kharmatu near Amerli, said that fighting continues in the south and north of the town as government forces try to drive out the armed Sunni fighters.
Our correspondent also said that there have been unconfirmed reports that Iranian jets were also involved in bombing the Islamic State group.
Al Jazeera’s Jane Arraf, reporting from the capital Baghdad, said that the government forces were also backed by “Shia militia”.
On Saturday, the US military attacked Islamic State positions and airdropped humanitarian aid to the trapped civilians, mostly Shia Turkmen minority.
Reports on Sunday said more aid was dropped from British, French and Australian planes.
“I can see the tanks of the Iraqi army patrolling Amerli’s street now. I’m very happy we got rid of the Islamic State terrorists who were threatening to slaughter us,” Amir Ismael, an Amerli resident, to Reuters by phone.
Residents of a besieged Iraqi town say they have prepared graves for their families and will kill their wives and children if the city falls to the Islamic State group.
The Shia Turkmen of Amerli, a town in the north of Iraq, are resisting Islamic State fighters who have surrounded them for two months. On Saturday, the Iraqi army and Shia militiamen launched an offensive to break the siege, but the fate of those inside still hangs in the balance.
Residents told Al Jazeera that they would rather kill themselves than fall into the hands of the Islamic State group, which has been accused of murdering those from religious minorities. The US and its allies last month intervened to break the siege of thousands of Yazidi tribesmen who were besieged on Sinjar mountain by the Islamic State.
“In every three to four houses we have dug graves. If the Islamic State storms our town everyone will be killing their wives and children and they will bury them,” says Mehdi, a government employee reached by phone in Amerli.
Mehdi, who asked for his real name to be withheld, said their wives had agreed they would rather die than be taken captive by the group. “They say ‘we don’t want to end up in the hands of the Islamic State, being enslaved like those in Sinjar mountain….We don’t want the Islamic State to lay their hands on us.’”
Women who have been airlifted from Amerli to Baghdad this week said the only question among their female relatives was whether they would have someone shoot them or do it themselves.
“All the women will kill themselves – either shoot themselves or use kerosene and burn themselves to death,” said Fatima Qassim, a beauty salon owner from Amerli.
Fatima said her brother was fighting to defend the town and had remained behind with his wife and six children.
“He put eight bullets in his rifle and he said if ISIS enters the town then I will kill my children one by one and then I will kill my wife and myself.”
Her sister Laila said her husband’s sister, Nada, killed herself a few weeks ago after her husband of less than two years died in the fighting.
After 40 days, Nada’s father called to say he was sending her a new husband she believed to be an Islamic State fighter. She took a pistol and shot herself, Laila said.
Despite sporadic airlifts by the Iraqi army to rescue residents, between 15,000 to 20,000 remain in Amerli. Two months under siege has left it short of food and wells are running dry.
An estimated 2,000 men, many of them famers or civil servants, have dug trenches and repelled three assaults.
The US military is expected to begin its own airlifts of food and water to Amerli but has been loath to play the same role in fighting IS forces that it has further north.
Amerli falls outside the declared US mandate of protecting US personnel and interests and critical Iraqi infrastructure.
The United Nations last week said the situation in Amerli was desperate and required immediate action to prevent a possible massacre.
Turkmen officials says they have been the biggest losers in the IS takeover of large parts of northern Iraq.
“More than 40 of the villages surrounding Amerli have fallen to the Islamic State. If the town falls it will be pure genocide,” says Torhan al-Mufti, the outgoing minister of communications.
Armed residents had managed to fend off attacks by the Islamic State, who encircled the town and regarded its majority population as apostates.
US jets and drones have also attacked the Islamic State group’s positions near Iraq’s Mosul Dam.
In the previous weeks, the US forces have conducted airstrikes in support of Iraqi and Kurdish forces on the ground, fighting against the Islamic State, which controls large areas in Syria and Iraq.
Since June, the Islamic State group has captured large swaths of northern Iraq. Media agencies

Protesters storm PTV in Islamabad, suspend transmission
Hundreds of protesters stormed the state broadcaster on Monday as fresh clashes with police broke out in Islamabad.
Transmission of the main Pakistani Television (PTV) news channel and PTV World was cut minutes after an anchor announced demonstrators had entered the building and "besieged" staff. Both Khan and Qadri appeared on the shipping containers they have used as stages to urge their supporters not to resort to violence.
Protesters armed with rocks and wooden clubs earlier Monday clashed with police, hours after the army called for a peaceful settlement of the political crisis that has shaken the country for the past two weeks.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) marched to the capital on August 15 to try to oust Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over alleged election fraud, triggering a crisis that ultimately sought assistance from the army.
The army on Sunday night urged the government and protesters to settle their differences peacefully, but warned it was "committed to playing its part in ensuring security of the state" after clashes left three dead and hundreds injured.
Violence began on Saturday night when followers of PTI and PAT tried to storm PM´s official residence.
Fresh clashes erupted on Monday morning as heavy rain fell on the capital, when demonstrators again tried to march on the building.
Protesters pelted riot police with stones and some smashed up motorbikes with wooden clubs. Police tried to respond with tear gas but the heavy rain appeared to make it ineffective.
Some managed to breach the perimeter fences of some official buildings, but paramilitary security forces stopped them at the entrance to the PM´s house.

100 days of Modi government : Tall claims, but disappointing performance
3092014The discredited Congress-led UPA government was replaced by the BJP-led NDA government with a resounding mandate. However, if the first 100 days are any indication, its work has been anything but landmark and emphatic.
Given below is the Aam Aadmi Party’s assessment on main points :
Black Money
Prime Minister Narendra Modi';s top priority was to bring back the black money stashed in foreign banks, which he reinforced in every speech during the election campaign. The current Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said that he would bring back the black money from foreign countries within 100 days. BJP leader Subramaniam Swamy had claimed that only two months were needed to bring back the Rs. 120 lakh crore back to the country, and even advocated abolishing the income tax for 40 years, since we';d have enough revenue not to need this tax.
But the actions fall short and are insignificant compared to the promises. 100 days are up. Where is the black money? The government has only set up the cursory SIT on Black Money, that too following the directions of the Supreme Court.
The government has taken no action to fill the huge number of vacancies in the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Excise and Customs, which would thoroughly investigate claims of corruption across the country. The government hasn';t reverted, repealed or even commented upon the double tax avoidance treaties or participatory notes, which are important in smuggling black money away from India. It hasn';t implemented any of the key recommendations of the White Paper on Black Money tabled in Parliament in 2012.
Ache din have arrived but only for those who want to keep their black money.
Price Rise
Another important electoral issue that the BJP and Narendra Modi raised was price rise and its effect on the Aam Aadmi. However, in the first 100 days of the BJP government, the prices of diesel, kerosene, milk, tomatoes, onions, potatoes and nearly every essential commodity went up by astronomical levels. And it';s not as if farmers benefited from this price rise, as they received lower real minimum support prices, adjusted for inflation.
The Union Budget: Arun Jaitley or P. Chidambaram
For those looking for patterns of similarity, the Union Budget was a clear example of how the Modi government represented cosmetic change and not something more fundamental. Spending on education and health remained exactly the same, and so did the expenditure on women, children and the socially disadvantaged. There were tax deduction announcements, disinvestment, FDI allottment increases, PPPs, calls for modernization, but somehow the Aam Aadmi remained under the radar for Shri Arun Jaitley.
Criminalizing Parliament and Making India Corrupt
For all the talk of removing MPs with a criminal record from Parliament, there has been little action to follow it up. Twelve out of the 44 Ministers in the Modi-goverment have serious criminal charges against them. Nihal Chand, a minister of the government is facing rape allegations against him in a 2011 case. Yet, their cases aren';t even close to being solved and have not been fast-tracked. Lok Sabha MP from Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath continues to make polarizing statements to flare Hindu-Muslim tensions even as the PM issues a 10 year moratorium on communal hatred. This doublespeak doesn';t go unnoticed. At the same time, the government has shown excessive speed in removing honest officers who fight corruption like Sanjiv Chaturvedi at AIIMS and clipping the powers of institutions that fight corruption like the Delhi Anti-Corruption Bureau. The government may make tall claims about fighting corruption but it has worked only to promote this social and economic evil.
Destroying the Environment
The government has proposed to loosen the regulations and make as many as 19 amendments in the Land Acquisition Act in a bid to please industrialists without taking care of the environment, farmers and the rural poor. The height of the Narmada dam will be raised. Irrigation projects requiring 2,000-10,000 hectares are now exempt from the scrutiny of the Centre and can be cleared by state governments. Those requiring less than 2,000 hectares will require no green clearance at all. The new government has also diluted the Forest Rights Act that requires the consent of the local tribal population for diverting forestland. Instead of gram sabhas (village councils) certifying that their rights had been settled and that they had consented to projects, the district administrations have now been asked to do the same. The process of reviewing the National Green Tribunal Act to reduce the judicial tribunal to an administrative one has been initiated. Slowly and steadily, the government is paving the way for the real backers of the 2014 election, the corrupt businesses of Indian industry to dictate the rules of government and the usage of public goods.
Which brings us to the most important point. A government which holds private interests above public good will end up being the same, even if its declared motives are Nehruvian socialism or Hindu nationalism. The fear with Narendra Modi';s government isn';t that they will do something radically different and crazy, but rather that they will end up being the UPA government. And the first 100 days, an indicator of a government';s priorities and policy goals, exhibit that this government is selling the public old wine in a new bottle, albeit with new leaky holes.
Rather, what we have seen is the same sort of governance or lack thereof, with excellent public relations management and high-definition photographs on Twitter. (ENDS)

Meet the Chugal Mughals!
3092014Great camaraderie amongst the lady-brigade of Jodha Akbar …
Round the clock shoot schedules and a rather long commute from Mumbai take their toll on the actors who’re a part of Zee TV’s historical magnum opus Jodha Akbar. However, the one thing that keeps them going is all the bonding and the fun they have as a team on the sets.
Creating a Whatsapp group by the name of ‘Chugal Mughals’ (gossip queens), the girls on the show have found a new way to stay connected and have fun. Keeping all the men out consciously, the girls are tight-lipped of all the talks that happen on the group. The camaraderie between Paridhi Sharma, Lavina Tandon and four other female co-actors on the sets is such that the six of them always manage to find a lighter moment or a private joke to chuckle over even on the most strenuous, hectic days.
Being the notorious one in the group, Lavina aka Rukaiya Begum is the admin of the group and ensures that she keeps the girls entertained at all times. Staying away from family due to their work, these girls have managed to make a family away from their families.
Talking about the group and all the fun these girls have on the sets, Jodha Begum aka Paridhi Sharma said, “We are a fun bunch of girls and it’s really nice that I’ve found like-minded people on the set. We actors shoot in trying situations, with little access to our loved ones and miss little things like having your family around during your meal time. The six of us make it a point to have lunch together and in fact ensure that the entire cast shares their meals. There are times, when we are shooting for intense episodes, and just one look at these mischievous girls makes me crack up and lighten the mood in general. I love these girls to bits and I hope that we stay the way we are – a mad bunch!”
Do not miss, Jodha Akbar, Monday – Friday at 8:00 PM, Only on Zee TV!

UNICEF launches Child-friendly Schools and Systems Package
4092014NEW DELHI, India, September 4 – UNICEF, today launched a package that aims to make schools child-friendly and ensure secure, safe, rights-based, quality education, for each and every child. The launch of Child-friendly Schools and Systems package is a part of the UNCT Campaign on Education for India being organised in the month of September 2014, which is in line with the UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI).
The ‘Child-friendly Schools and Systems’ (CFSS) package highlights the need to keep continuous focus on the qualitative aspect of the Right to Education. It is designed to enable all children to benefit from child-friendly and inclusive learning environments. The launch was presided by Mr. Louis-Georges Arsenault, UNICEF India representative; Ms Kushal Singh, Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and UNICEF Celebrity Advocate for Education Kareena Kapoor. (Watch video- link to be inserted later)
It is four years since the historic Right to Free & Compulsory Education (RTE) Act that ensures free and compulsory education for children in the age group 6-14 years, was enacted by the Government of India. Today’s launch of the Child-friendly Schools and Systems’ (CFSS) package urges stakeholders to expand the focus beyond quantity and accelerate the shift from ‘Right of Access to Education’ to ‘Right to Learn and quality education’.
“The RTE Act has a vision on child-friendly and child-centered education. The Child-friendly Schools and Systems package explains what child-friendly education means in the Indian context and how it can be implemented to ensure inclusive learning. The field experiences presented in the package show that it is possibleto implement CFSS guiding principles in schools of India.
Integration of CFSS guiding principles into state plans for Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, training programmes, development of curricula and monitoring processes will help to improve the quality of education in India, said Louis Georges Arsenault, Representative, UNICEF India
Speaking on this occasion, UNICEF India Celebrity Advocate, Kareena Kapoor said, “I recently visited Rajasthan with UNICEF to see child-friendly schools and to meet some of the girls and boys that are benefitting from these programmes. I was inspired to see spaces which are child-friendly. These are places where children are full of joy when they interact with teachers, where children feel safe and secure and where interactive and creative tools are used to ensure that children are happy and learning.”
The CFSS package describes a typical child-friendly school where the infrastructure, learning environment and learning processes aim towards children’s well-being, holistic development and inclusive learning. The content and methods of teaching-learning centre around children’s best interests and encourage the joyful participation of every child. Community members are closely involved in supporting and monitoring the quality of the school’s learning environment.
“The purpose of the Child-friendly Schools and Systems framework is to serve as a guide for planners and practitioners. The proposed measures which have been developed through extensive consultations over the past three years, will enable teachers to transform classroom environments into interactive learning spaces. For policymakers this can act as a reference guide for quality improvement in schools, to make RTE a reality for all children in India,” said Urmila Sarkar, Chief of Education, UNICEF India. She emphasized that child-friendly education has two major characteristics, both of which relate directly to the right to education and to equity: It is child-centred, and it is child-seeking. Child-centred education acts in the best interests of the child, leading to realization of the child’s full potential.
UNICEF is working with the Government of India to ensure greater access to education, enrolment and improved learning outcomes for all girls and boys by strengthening policies, enhancing capacities of teachers, as well as working with communities to raise awareness about the importance of education.Today’s launch of the ‘Child-friendly Schools and Systems’ package is a key step forward in this direction as the CFSS approach aims toimprove the quality of education leading to gains in access, gender equity, empowerment and improved learning outcomes. It is integral to fulfilling each child’s fundamental right to education.

EU : Set new package of economic sanctions against Russia
6092014
The European Union, EU, has agreed on a new package of economic sanctions against Russia, despite a ceasefire between government forces and pro-Kremlin rebels in Ukraine. The sanctions tighten existing measures imposed in July, targeting more individuals with travel bans and asset freezes, as well as tightening access to capital markets for Russian oil and defence companies.European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission Chief Jose Manuel Barros said in a letter to European leaders that the new measures were an effective tool to reinforce the principle that EU sanctions are directed at promoting a change of course in Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
US President Barack Obama told reporters on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Wales Friday that sanctions against Russia may be lifted if a long term sustainable ceasefire is reached in Ukraine.

Tony – Modi signs nuclear deal
6092014
The decks for the import of uranium by India have been cleared with India and Australia inking a pact on civil nuclear energy deal. The pact was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Tony Abbott in New Delhi this evening.
The nuclear deal will form a high point in the ongoing transformation of India-Australia relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the signing of the nuclear deal as a historic step and a new chapter in the Indo-Australian relations. In his opening remarks, Mr Modi said, both the countries agreed to further deepen bilateral relations.
He said, Australia is India’s important strategic partner and can play a pivotal role in its development. He said there is enormous scope of cooperation in manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.
Mr Modi said India and Australian must prioritize promoting peace and prosperity in the India Ocean and Asia Pacific region. Mr Modi said, both the sides will strengthen their economic relationship and India welcomes Australian investment.
He said, India and Australia will increase their security cooperation to counter terrorism, cyber threats and other security challenges. The two sides agreed on bilateral maritime exercise to be next year.
The Australian Prime Minster Tony Abbott said, his country signed the nuclear deal with New Delhi as it trusts India to do the right thing in this area. Mr Abbott acknowledged India as emerging democratic superpower.
AIR correspondent reports, the efforts to sign civil nuclear deal were underway since 2012 after Labour party in Australia reversed its decision to ban the sale of uranium to India because of New Delhi not being a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, NPT.
The negotiations took place on uranium sales after Canberra lifted a long-time ban on exporting the valuable ore to Delhi to meet its ambitious nuclear energy programme.
India is not a signatory to the NPT, but Austrialian Prime Minister Abbott has stressed that Australia will ensure adequate bilateral safeguards. After the failure to conclude a civil nuclear deal with Japan during Modi’s visit to that country, the pact with Australia will boost India’s energy sector.
Australia has about a third of the world’s recoverable uranium resources and exports nearly seven thousand tonnes of it a year.
Official correspondent reports that three other agreements were signed in the areas of water resources management, sports and technical and vocational education and Training.

PM’s Statement to Media after delegation-level talks with the Australian PM
6092014
आस्ट्रेलिया के प्रधानमंत्री श्री टोनी एबोट 05 सितंबर, 2014 को नई दिल्ली में राष्ट्रपति भवन
Your Excellency, Prime Minister Tony Abbott,

New global data expose acute prevalence of violence against children: UNICEF
5092014NEW YORK, 4 September 2014 – The largest-ever compilation of data on violence against children shows the staggering extent of physical, sexual and emotional abuse — and reveals the attitudes that perpetuate and justify violence, keeping it ‘hidden in plain sight’ in every country and community in the world.
“These are uncomfortable facts — no government or parent will want to see them,” said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake. “But unless we confront the reality each infuriating statistic represents — the life of a child whose right to a safe, protected childhood has been violated — we will never change the mindset that violence against children is normal and permissible. It is neither. “
The UNICEF report “Hidden in Plain Sight” draws on data from 190 countries, documenting violence in places where children should be safe: their communities, schools and homes. It details the lasting, often inter-generational effects of violence, finding that exposed children are more likely to become unemployed, live in poverty and be violent towards others. The authors note that the data is derived only from individuals who were able and willing to respond, and therefore represent minimum estimates.
Major findings include:
- Sexual violence: Around 120 million girls under the age of 20 worldwide (about 1 in 10) have experienced forced intercourse or other forced sexual acts, and one in 3 ever-married adolescent girls aged 15 to 19 (84 million) have been victims of emotional, physical or sexual violence committed by their husbands or partners. The prevalence of partner violence is 70 per cent or higher in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Equatorial Guinea, and approaches or exceeds 50 per cent in Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania and Zimbabwe. In Switzerland, a 2009 national survey of girls and boys aged 15 to 17 found that 22 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, had experienced at least one incident of sexual violence involving physical contact. The most common form of sexual violence for both sexes was cyber-victimization.
- Homicide: One fifth of homicide victims globally are children and adolescents under the age of 20, resulting in about 95,000 deaths in 2012. Homicide is the leading cause of death among males between 10 and 19 years old in Panama, Venezuela, El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, Guatemala and Colombia. Nigeria has the highest number of child homicides – 13,000. Among countries in Western Europe and North America, the United States has the highest homicide rate.
- Bullying: Slightly more than 1 in 3 students between the ages of 13 and 15 worldwide are regularly bullied in school; in Samoa, the proportion is almost 3 in 4. Almost a third of students 11 to 15 years old in Europe and North America report bullying others – in Latvia and Romania, nearly 6 in 10 admit to bullying others.
- Violent discipline: About 17 per cent of children in 58 countries are subject to severe forms of physical punishment (hitting on the head, ears or face or hitting hard and repeatedly). Over 40 per cent of children 2 to 14 years old experience severe physical punishment in Chad, Egypt and Yemen. Globally, three in 10 adults believe physical punishment is needed to raise children well. In Swaziland, 82 per cent say physical punishment is necessary.
Attitudes towards violence: Close to half of all adolescent girls aged 15 to 19 (around 126 million) believe a husband is justified in hitting his wife under certain circumstances. The proportion rises to 80 per cent or more in Afghanistan, Guinea, Jordan, Mali and Timor-Leste. In 28 of 60 countries with data on both sexes, a larger proportion of girls than boys believe that wife-beating is sometimes justified. In Cambodia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Rwanda and Senegal, girls are around twice as likely as boys to think a husband is sometimes justified in hitting his wife . Data from 30 countries suggest that about seven in 10 girls 15-19 years old who had been victims of physical and/or sexual abuse had never sought help: many said they did not think it was abuse or did not see it as a problem.
UNICEF points to six strategies to enable society as a whole, from families to governments, to prevent and reduce violence against children. They include supporting parents and equipping children with life skills; changing attitudes; strengthening judicial, criminal and social systems and services; and generating evidence and awareness about violence and its human and socio-economic costs, in order to change attitudes and norms.
“Violence against children occurs every day, everywhere. And while it harms individual children the most, it also tears at the fabric of society — undermining stability and progress. But violence against children is not inevitable. It is preventable — if we refuse to let violence remain in the shadows,” Lake said. “The evidence in this report compels us to act — for the sake of those individual children and the future strength of societies around the world.”
About the #ENDViolence initiative:
UNICEF launched the initiative on 31 July 2013 to urge collective action to end violence against children, highlighting the fact that violence is everywhere, but often happens out of sight or is tolerated due to social and cultural norms. Under the banner ‘Make the invisible, visible’, the initiative aims to raise awareness as a first step toward modifying attitudes, behaviours and policies. The initiative also supports efforts to build evidence of what works, and reinforces the idea that violence can be prevented by highlighting successful efforts and movements at all levels of society. Some 70 countries from every region of the world have formally joined #ENDviolence, strengthening efforts to identify, track and report violence against children in all its forms.

Rani Mukerji visits anti-sex trafficking NGO, Apne Aap
5092014Rani Mukerji visits anti-sex trafficking NGO, Apne Aap, chats with survivors, and supports Apne Aap campaign for protection of frontline anti-trafficking activists
Apne Aap trafficking survivor activist Fatima championed by Rani Mukerji
New Delhi, September 4, 2014: Bollywood star Rani Mukerji today visited victims, survivors and girls and women at risk to prostitution at the New Delhi office of anti trafficking NGO, Apne Aap Women Worldwide.
Responding to an invitation by Apne Aap survivor activist Fatima, Rani Mukerji changed her schedule to meet with the girls and women. The Bollywood star had met Fatima Khatoon at the KBC show where she helped her win Rs. 25 lakh.
“I have invited Rani Mukerji to help publicise my appeal to Indian government. I beg the Indian Government to protect me from the traffickers. I have received seven death threats from them after I spoke against sex-trafficking in KBC. Earlier, when I exposed a trafficking ring in Forbesganj, Bihar, a corrupt police officer picked up my 14-year-old daughter and kept her in police custody all night. They also arrested my colleague on false charges. I appeal to the government to drop the false charges against my colleague. I ask police to become honest like Rani ji in Mardaani,” said Fatima Khatoon.
Rani Mukerji while interacting with media personnel in the press conference said, “I was always sensitive towards this issue but after doing this film, I have got more attached and emotional towards the cause of fighting against human trafficking. Today, when I interacted with the girls here, I was extremely touched when they said that they also want to do something big in life and they too want to be a ‘Mardaani’ like me. I am happy that my film has touched the right chord. And I appeal to all the journalists to take the issue forward.”
Rani Mukerji also posed for a Facebook selfie and asked others to join the Apne Aap campaign ‘Cool Men Don’t Buy Sex’.
Ruchira Gupta founder of Apne Aap thanked Rani Mukerji for her support. “Rani is the first Bollywood star who has taken the trouble to involve trafficking survivors in the spin-of-publicity from her movie, Mardaani,” said Ruchira Gupta. Mardaani is based on the issue of human trafficking and Rani Mukerji has played the role of a tough cop fighting against child trafficking.
Fatima has been working with Apne Aap Women Worldwide as a survivor-leader since 2005 and has helped in rescuing 35 girls, who were trafficked into prostitution and getting traffickers arrested. Interacting with the media, during the press meet she said, “I wanted to talk about my past, to tell women not be ashamed. After all, the shame is not ours but of those who exploit us. I also wanted to talk about my present- how a struggle makes you strong. I formed a circle with other oppressed women under the banner of our anti-trafficking NGO, Apne Aap Women Worldwide (AAWW).”
The discussion highlighted the need for collective efforts to address this scourge that persists across the country.
Apne Aap women worldwide works with more than 20,000 victims ,survivors and their families to dismantle the prostitution system by increasing choices for girls and women and decreasing choices for pimps and customers.

LEADERS ARE NOT BORN, LEADERS ARE MADE
7092014“CHAMPIONING THE CAUSE OF HUMANITY & HUMAN RIGHTS”
POLICE WATCH INDIA E-NEWS SERVICE
We Police The Police Mob. no. 9810887820
A Global Online Media Release WEEKLY NEWS LETTER
Official Website : www.policewatchindia.org 341STEDITION
We Fear No One & We Favour No One. Dated : 07th September, 2014
The world is watching
LEADERS ARE NOT BORN, LEADERS ARE MADE – THE RIGHT TYPE OF UPBRINGING, SCHOOLING, SURROUNDINGS, TRAINING ETC. ARE SOME OF THE PRE-REQUISITES WHICH SHAPE & MAKE A LEADER.
Everybody should know the fact that the absurd most leadership myth is that leaders are born, that there is a genetic factor to leadership. This myth asserts that people simply either have certain charismatic qualities or not. That’s nonsense. In fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born.
Leadership is about tapping the wellspring of human motivation and about fundamental relations with one’s fellows. Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.
Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked, leadership is defined by results not attributes.
Men make history and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.
All of the great leaders have had one characteristic in common : it was the willingness to confront unequivocally the major anxieties of their people in their times. This, and not much else, is the essence of leadership.
A GOOD LEADER :-
1) Practises good communication. Good communication involves listening to what people have to say. Uses his active listening skills, making sure that he has really understood what is being conveyed to him. Asks appropriate questions where ever necessary to help understand and gather the information for the attainment of pre-set goals.
2) Is flexible with his leadership style as the inexperienced under him will need a more directive style than those who are experienced. Empowers and trusts the experienced to the extent necessary. Involves the knowledgeable & experienced in his decision making.
3) Builds trust as without trust there is no relationship. Does as he says he will and acts with integrity. Is human and authentic in his dealings with everyone.
4) Sets goals for those whom he commands. Gives them a vision, i.e. a something to strive for. With the inexperienced he may set the goals for them, with the more experienced discuss the goals with them. Makes sure that the goals he sets are specific, challenging yet attainable.
5) Communicates his expectations. Lets people know what is expected of them and cross checks that they have understood him thoroughly.
6) Assesses & figures out what it is that they need from him as their leader. Do they need direction or do they just need him to get out of the way of the firing line and provide support from behind and/or the sidelines.
7) Monitors the achievements of those whom he commands appropriately & fairly. The inexperienced will require closer monitoring than the more experienced.
8) Provides those whom he commands the feedback about them based on their achievements and/or failures. Feedback helps people specifically with the tasks they are involved with and also make them feel valued. Everyone likes to feel that what they are doing is worthwhile and valued.
9) It is very important that he engages the hearts as well as the minds of those whom he commands as it is this combination that delivers the impossible.
True leadership is about understanding people and involving them to help you achieve your goals. That takes all of the good characteristics, like integrity, being cool headed, dedication of purpose, selflessness, compassion, toughness where ever necessary, knowledge, skill, implacability, the will power & determination to succeed & to never accept failures.

AAP : Arvind letter to President of India

Letter seeking effective curbs on crimes against women
7092014Letter seeking effective curbs on crimes against women
Respected friends
Vandematram
Subject: Demand Letter seeking effective curbs on crimes against women and burgeoning illegal trade of drugs and vulgarity; and invitation for an Open Debate at Constitution Club, New Delhi
You must be aware that illegal/legal trade of different addictions (drugs, liquor, tobacco and others) and vulgarity or nudity through films, electronic and print media or websites is taking place (or being calculatedly run) by Indian or foreign individuals/organisations in our country. The trade has assumed the gigantic form. It is no more a secrete now that a number of market forces are calculatedly trying to damage the intelligence of your youth, family institution and the social fabric. This is a deep-rooted conspiracy causing huge damage to the nation. During the last a few years not only different Commissions, Committees or social organisations, but also the Supreme Court has advised to curb all those who are running or expanding this illegal trade. The efforts in this direction on the part of the government are almost nil and the society is fast degrading.
Armed with the research and studies conducted by Maulik Bharat Trust and hundreds of our associated organisations we jointly place the following demands before the government:
1. The production and sell of any kinds of drug should be made fully transparent and the transaction should be allowed only through debit/credit cards.
2. An effective mechanism for putting a control/ban on addictions should be ensured by bringing all the laws related to different addictions in the Concurrent List.
3. An effective mechanism with exemplary action should be evolved and implemented punishing all those who are involved in production or trade of different illegal drugs.
4. An extensive campaign be conducted in all educational and health institutions to educate the people about the harms of the drugs.
5. All Ministries in coordination with other ministries should formulate and implement a collective action plan so that the Indian and Constitutional values could be saved.
6. A campaign should be launched to identity and take strict action against all those government officials who due to any reason ignore the activities of the people involved in illegal trade of production, distribution or sell of the drugs.
7. The vulgar material damaging the Indian cultural ethos through films, advertisements, television, print media and any other medium of communication should be banned forthwith. Definition of vulgarity should be made clear. Apart from it, the producers, directors, photographers and artists involved in any kind of nude/vulgar scene, photo, painting or business should be banned and action should be taken against them.
8. The porn websites being made available in India through foreign websites should be blocked immediately as has been done by China. All internet service providers should be forced to set up their servers in our country.
9. India should withdraw its permission granted through the United Nations Organisations to allow porn sites in India.
10. All steps, which protect the dignity of women and provide healthy atmosphere to children and adolescents for development should be taken.
In order to understand the policies and intention of the government in this regard Maulik Bharat has decided to organise on Open Debate at Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi, on September 27 at 10 am. You are requested to kindly attend the function and provide your valuable suggestions.
Please provide your written consent to support our initiative and sanction for attending the function so that we can make proper arrangements.
Thanks
Waiting for positive action

One killed in Yemen as police disperse demonstration
A Yemeni man was shot dead and several others wounded as police tried to disperse Shi’ite Muslim Houthi protesters blocking the road between the capital and Sanaa airport, AFP reported, citing demonstrators. Police used tear gas and water cannon against the protesters, who were camped along the road near the interior ministry. The escalation of weeks of protests reportedly came after demonstrators ignored the demand to clear the area, and apparently after some approached a checkpoint leading to the nearby ministry. Tens of thousands of Houthis have been camping around Sanaa demanding the resignation of the government, which they accuse of corruption.
Arab League set to combat Islamic State militants
The Arab League will take all necessary measures to combat Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, the foreign ministers of the organization agreed at a meeting in Cairo on Sunday. Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi suggested that military action may be conducted under the umbrella of the organization’s joint defense pact. However, it is not clear whether the Arab League’s commitment will include direct military involvement in Iraq and Syria. The foreign ministers also endorsed the UN Security Council’s August resolution which called to suppress the flow of fighters and financing to IS and other extremist groups in the region. In a statement, the Arab League for the first time called on Syrian opposition groups to hold talks with President Bashar Assad’s forces, in an effort to create a reconciliation government.
15 Ukrainian soldiers freed by local militia in Donetsk
The local militia in Donetsk freed 15 Ukrainian soldiers from Cherkas and the 40th battalion of the ground defense, said Boris Filatov, deputy head of the Dnepropetrovsk region, on his Facebook page. “The Donetsk side releases captives at our demand without exchange of additional conditions,” he added. The process was guided by the head of the center of the prisoners’ exchange – Col. Gen. of Ukraine’s army reserve, Vladimir Rubin – according to Filatov. Earlier, the first two captives were freed by local militia in Lughansk region, according to the Ukrainian president’s press secretary, Svyatoslav Tsegolko. Czech Republic to supply ammunition to Kurdish authorities
The Czech Republic will supply Iraq’s Kurds with ammunition worth over US$2 million, Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek said in televised statement on Sunday, as quoted by RIA Novosti. “Right after Iraq’s new government begins its work, which is planned for September 14, I will visit the country for talks on the supply of weapons, the first tranche of which has already been approved by the Czech government. The cost of the first delivery is over 40 million korunas (or $2 million), but it is gratuitous on our part,” Zaoralek said. On Wednesday, US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said that Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Croatia, Canada, and Albania will provide “arms and equipment” to Kurdistan, northern Iraq, which joined the central Baghdad government in the fight against Islamic State militants, formerly known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIS/ISIL).
Malaysia urges MH17 investigators to begin work at crash site
Malaysian officials are urging an international experts team to launch their work at the MH17 crash site in Ukraine as soon as possible. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak said on Saturday that it was important to get to the crash area before the arrival of winter. The PM stated that Malaysia had convincing intelligence data about the crash causes, but stressed it was necessary to collect evidence at the crash site – which might be more difficult in the winter season. A Malaysian team of 30 investigators is expected to arrive in Ukraine early next week. The group will include Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and various divers who will scan the lake at the crash site.

Ebola lockdown in Sierra Leone will not help says MSF
A three-day lockdown in Sierra Leone to help combat Ebola, which is planned to start on September 19, will not help contain the virus according to the medical charity, Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF). Officials in Sierra Leone say the lockdown will help health workers isolate new cases.7

Russian director Konchalovsky’s film wins Silver Lion in Venice
Renowned Russian director Andrey Konshalovsky’s film “The Postman’s White Nights” has won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. Konchalovsky’s movie is a mix of a feature and a documentary, and its main character is postman Alexey from a small village near Arkhangelsk in northern Russia. It took about a year and 50 people to find the right one for the role, Itar-Tass news agency cited the director as saying. “This is just an attempt to make a film using other methods, inexpensively and independently from the market as much as possible so as not to be accountable to anyone for what you are doing,”Konchalovsky stated.
US citizen to be tried in North Korea for unspecified crime next Sunday
Matthew Miller, one of three American citizens currently held captive in North Korea, will be put on trial on September 14 for “perpetrating hostile acts.” Miller was arrested in April, when he tore up his visa at the immigration desk and demanded political asylum -according to an official statement from Pyongyang. Less than a week ago Miller and two other Americans, Jeffrey Fowle and Kenneth Bae, made a video address in an interview with CNN, something very unusual for the North Korean prison system, with a plea to the US government to send a special envoy to the isolated state to negotiate their release, AFP reports. US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki refused to disclose American diplomatic moves to release the prisoners, saying Washington did not want to jeopardise efforts.

Malaysia sending MH17 crash investigators to Ukraine
The Malaysian government is sending a team of 30 police officers and experts to the MH17 crash site in eastern Ukraine on September 8 to investigate the reasons behind the accident, chief of police Khalid Abu Bakar said. Another group made up of 50 people will follow later. Bakar did not specify when the experts could be granted access to the crash site. Around the same time, Malaysia’s Defense Minister Hishamuddin Hussein will be visiting Ukraine. “The main objective of the trip will be to gain secure access for experts to the crash site. We hope that the Ukrainian government and self-defense forces will allow us to do that,” he said. Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk Region on July 17, killing all 298 people on board.
Libya in row with Sudan over plane that ‘breached airspace to arm terrorists’
Libya accused Sudan of arming terrorists and expelled the country’s military attaché on Saturday, a government statement said. The Libyan government added that a Sudanese military transport plane under the control of a militant group had entered its airspace, with the intention of supplying a “terrorist group” with ammunition. “This work from the Sudanese state violates [the sovereignty] of the State of Libya and interferes with its affairs,” the Libyan statement said, claiming that Sudan is actually “supporting a terrorist group.”According to Libya, the Sudanese plane was on its way to Tripoli-Matiga airportafter making a refueling stop in the Libyan desert oasis Kufra near the border with Sudan. Sudan has confirmed that it sent a military plane, but denied it was meant to support non-state militant groups, stating that the plane was carrying equipment for a joint Libyan-Sudanese border force.

Islamic State kills British hostage
14092014Islamic State jihadists have released a video which they claim shows the beheading of a 44-year-old British aid worker, David Haines, who has been held hostage since his abduction last year.
The masked man in the latest video released across social media on Saturday night claims that Haines was killed because of UK Prime Minister David Cameron’s pledge to arm Kurdish forces in order to battle the jihadist group, according to reports.
“This British man has to pay the price for your promise, Cameron, to arm the Peshmerga against the Islamic State,” the executioner said, according to liveleak.
“My name is David Cawthorne Haines,” the hostage reportedly said before the execution.
“I would like to declare that I hold you, David Cameron, entirely responsible for my execution. You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the United States against the Islamic State, just as your predecessor, Tony Blair, did, following a trend amongst our British Prime Ministers who can’t find the courage to say no to the Americans.”
Haines has made a successful career as a humanitarian aid worker since 1999 and has worked in conflict zones in Africa, the Balkans and the Middle East. Haines’ employer said last week in a statement: “A man’s life should never be threatened on account of his humanitarian commitment.”
Islamic State militant group released video footage of the killing of a man believed to be a British aid worker. ISIS group, which is expanding its control in parts of Iraq and Syria, says the killing is meant to send a message to allies of the United States.
The aid worker, David Haines, disappeared last year in Syria while working for a humanitarian organization. The video shows a militant with a knife in his hand standing by a kneeling man wearing an orange jumpsuit.
The kneeling man identifies himself as British. He says the British government is responsible for his execution, since it can’t say no to the United States. The militant issued a warning that the Islamic State would accelerate the destruction of US allies if attacks on the group continued. He then killed the kneeling man. Islamic militant group has killed two American journalists. Haines was shown in a video the group released depicting the killing of one of the journalists. Obama has called the killing of a British aid worker by the Islamic State militant group a barbaric murder.
In a statement, Obama said the United States shares grief and resolve with Britain, which he calls a close friend and ally.
He said the US will work with Britain and a broad coalition of nations to bring the perpetrators to justice. He said the countries would unite to destroy the group which is a threat to people around the world.
The militant group has also killed two American journalists and released video footage of their executions.
The murder of David Haines is an act of pure evil. My heart goes out to his family who have shown extraordinary courage and fortitude.

SINGLE TAX GST IS REAL SIMPLIFICATION OF TAX STRUCTURE
15092014 GOVERNMENT URGED TO INITIATE DIALOGUE WITH STAKEHOLDERS ON GST
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), apex body of the trading community has strongly called for early implementation of Goods & Services Tax (GST) in India but CAIT has also regretted that Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers deliberating on GST has so far not made public the proposed format of GST. The traders and other stakeholders have been kept aloof from the draft of proposed GST and no discussion in any form has been initiated so far by the Empowered Committee with stakeholders. The CAIT has also regretted that the Central Sales Tax which was scheduled to be abolished by year 2010 as per parliamentary declaration of the earlier Government is still in force which is further complicating the issue.
CAIT National President Mr. B.C.Bhartia and Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal in a joint statement issued here at New Delhi today made it clear that any format of GST containing double taxation shall not be acceptable to the business community. They further said that we are in support of GST taxation system but it should be based on basic fundamentals of GST including uniform tax law across the Country, uniform tax rates in different states, single tax to be administered by single authority and if such a GST is implemented in the Country, only then the taxation system will be simplified and rationalised.
The trade leaders said that wider taxation net and voluntary compliance is the basic fundamental of GST taxation system which will yield more revenue to the Government. This needs to be taken in mind by the Empowered Committee. They said that the Committee released a first discussion paper on GST in the year 2009 and since after that though long span of 5 years have passed but the Empowered Committee has neither spoken any word about the proposed format of GST nor it has taken into confidence the stakeholders including traders, who are real carriers of taxation system. As per media reports both State Governments and Central Government are busy in resolving issues of revenue sharing etc but on which model the revenue will be generated is yet to be decided, which is factually a wrong process. The Empowered Committee did not think it proper to even make an attempt to know the practical difficulties of the stakeholders and their subsequent views on proposed format of GST. It appears that the Committee is taking stakeholders granted on such an important issue.
Both Mr. Bhartia and Mr. Khandelwal said that CAIT and large number of Trade Associations across the Country have made many attempts to draw attention of the State Governments and the Empowered Committee on various disparities and anomalies in current VAT taxation system but no effort has been made by either to resolve such issues and whereas on the other hand various State Governments have added new sections in their respective VAT Act and by way of various notifications, have made the taxation system more complex.
They have urged both Central Government and the Empowered Committee to take stakeholders in confidence on proposed format of GST and its road map and an effort must be made to bring unanimity. Steps should be taken to resolve anomalies and disparities in VAT taxation system and the Union Government should abolish Central Sales Tax immediately. The trading community across the Country is keen to cooperate with the Government in early implementation of GST in India.

FII inflows in debt market cross Rs 1 lakh cr mark in 2014
21092014![]() |
Overseas investors have pumped in a staggering over Rs 1 lakh crore into the Indian debt market since the beginning of the year primarily on account of government’s reform agenda.
As per the latest data, foreign investors have purchased debt securities worth Rs 2,82,194 crore in this year so far, while they offloaded bonds to the tune of Rs 1,64,820 crore during the same period, resulting into a net inflow of Rs 1,17,374 crore (USD 19.45 billion).
These huge inflows included a net investment of Rs 14,900 crore in this month so far.
According to market experts, improved fundamentals of the Indian economy, a decisive mandate to the BJP-led NDA at the Centre, various reform measures announced by the government and high interest rate have caught the fancy of overseas investors (Foreign Institutional Investors, sub-accounts and Foreign Portfolio Investors).
The inflow is also significantly higher in debt compared to equities, which till date have attracted Rs 85,330 crore (USD 14.2 billion).
Interestingly, most of the inflow into Indian debt has gone into government securities.
Since 16th May, when the election results were announced, overseas investors have poured in close to Rs 86,000 crore in the Indian debt market, as the verdict met foreign investors’ expectations in the Lok Sabha polls.
In 2013, foreign investors had pulled out a net amount of Rs 50,848 crore from the country’s bond market.
The strong inflows in the recent months have taken the cumulative net investments of foreign investors into Indian debt market to Rs 2.22 lakh crore, while their investments in dollar terms is USD 44 billion.
This is based on the data since November 1992 when overseas investors began investing into Indian markets.

CBI director alleges perjury by Prashant Bhushan
21092014![]() |
CBI Director Ranjit Sinha on Saturday moved the Supreme Court over the conflicting positions taken by NGO CPIL’s counsel Prashant Bhushan and Kamini Jaiswal on the identity of the source that provided them the alleged original copy of the entry register maintained at the gate of his official residence.
Sinha in his application said that when Bhushan handed over on Sep 8 the alleged entry register to the apex court in a sealed cover, he said it was given to him the previous night (Sep 7) by some unknown people who had come to his residence.
The CBI director said Bhushan’s statement was recorded by the court in its Sep 8 order as it took the register into its custody.
However, Sinha said that when the court on Sep 15 asked the NGO to disclose the identity of the source in a sealed cover, the NGO in another affidavit said the entry register was received from a “trustworthy and reliable source”.
He said it was noteworthy that the affidavit did not refer to the fact orally submitted by Bhushan and also recorded in the court’s order that on “the night of Sep 7, some unknown people had come to his residence and handed over the original entry register/guest register of the residential establishment of the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation”.
Pointing to the shift in stand of the petitioner NGO and its counsel, Sinha in his application Saturday said it was clear that the identity of the source referred to by Bhushan was in the “active knowledge” of the petitioner NGO and its counsel.
“All these contradictory/false statements have been deliberately and intentionally made to cause a circumstance to exist with the objective of misleading” the court and hence “Bhushan is punishable under various sections of the IPC including section 193″ that provides for punishment for false evidence.
Sinha also denied that he made any attempt to bail out former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran in the Aircel-Maxis deal case.
Seeking registration of a first information report, Sinha said the NGO’s plea that he should stay away from participating in the 2G investigation and trial was “clearly mischevious and based on untruth facts in which mis-statements have been deliberately made so as to obtain a favourable order from the court”.

Sena & BJP Coalition logjam: Uddhav’s offer 151 for Sena, 119 for BJP
21092014
“Today I am making a final attempt to ensure that the Mahayuti (grand alliance of opposition parties) stays intact. Sena had initially asked for 160 seats. But now we are ready to part with nine seats. Shiv Sena will fight on 151 seats, leaving 119 seats for BJP. The remaining 18 seats will be given to our allies,” he said in Mumbai on Sunday.
“I cannot go any further,” said Thackeray, who addressed his party workers on Sunday morning after a meeting of the party’s state executive.
“Maharashtra will be the number one state in the country if Sena comes to power. I want power and I will take it at any cost. But this power is to give Maharashtra something and not to take away, like other parties do,” he said. Uddhav Thackeray declared this formula in the party office bearers meeting in Mumbai today.
But at the same time, he also made it clear that this is the final proposal and there will be no change in the formula. He also gave the indication of his capability of fighting the election without alliance. Thackeray expressed his displeasure over the delay on the seat sharing decision. He said that this is the best opportunity for both BJP and Shiv Sena to come into the power and both of them should not lose this opportunity. At the same time, he also told his party workers to be ready for any situation, that is to work for the alliance or for the party separately.
He said that he does not want to break the 25 years’ alliance with BJP but if it happens, he will be very disappointed.

Afghan presidential rivals finally sign unity deal
21092014
Afghanistan’s two rival presidential candidates signed a power-sharing deal on Sunday, ending a prolonged stand-off over disputed election results at a pivotal moment in the war-weary nation’s history.
The final vote count is also scheduled for release, after being delayed for last-minute talks to break a deadlock that plunged Afghanistan into crisis as US-led troops end their 13-year war against the Taliban.
The final vote count is also scheduled for release, after being delayed for last-minute talks to break a deadlock that plunged Afghanistan into crisis as US-led troops end their 13-year war against the Taliban.
Ashraf Ghani – who won June’s run-off presidential vote, according to preliminary results – will become president, with Abdullah Abdullah nominating the person to fill a new post of “chief executive officer” (CEO), which will be similar to prime minister.
Both Ghani and Abdullah claimed to have won the fraud-tainted election. The United Nations has pushed hard for a “national unity government” to avoid a return to the ethnic divisions of the 1990s civil war.
The two candidates signed the agreement at a ceremony inside the presidential palace, before they embraced each other and outgoing President Hamid Karzai began a speech.
Under the constitution, the president wields almost total control, and the new government structure will face a major test as the country’s security and economic outlook worsens.
The vote count has been plagued by months of setbacks amid allegations of massive fraud, emboldening the Taliban insurgents and further weakening the aid-dependent economy.
Independent Election Commission officials said official result would be released later Sunday, after the deal was signed.
The future of Afghanistan’s relationship with the US-led NATO alliance also hangs in the balance after Karzai refused to sign a security pact to ensure a continued foreign military presence after this year.
NATO’s top military commander said a unity government would enable the rapid conclusion of the pact.
“We are hoping for very fast signatures. And that would be important because it brings great stability to the conversation of our continued support,” US General Philip Breedlove had said.

Former Bigg Boss contestant Sofia Hayat alleged
21092014Former Bigg Boss contestant Sofia Hayat alleged Director Anil Goyal of cheap behavior
Sofia Hayat who earlier alleged Arman Kohli for hitting her in Bigg Boss house in 7th season is now seem very unhappy with the director/actor of an upcoming film “Bhai Ka Maal hai”, Anil Goyal for supposedly taking her name for the publicity of his unfinished film, that too when she is not a part the film anymore and reportedly abused her.
Sofia says, “They signed me for the film “Bhai ka Maal hai” nearly three years ago and said that they would pay me a scanty amount but I agreed because I was told that they would have a great cast and it would be a good film to be added to my bollywood career. I even took part in the promotion with baba Ramdev Look-a-like a few years back. After, I did not hear anything for 3 years, finally, after they saw me in Bigg Boss, they decided to re start the film and I guess my name was used to sign other actor cast also. I, then clearly refused as I was not interested anymore and my contract was null and void, So to which, Anil (director Anil Goyal) got furious and sent me abusive messages saying that I am a Prostitute who shows her body”
“Of course, I got mad and decided not to talk to him but he, further fake-accused me for blackmailing him for money. He then again contacted me pleading to do his film, but I put a condition and said, I would do his film only if he pay for my business class air tickets but he refused to do so instead he offered me his next film to sign if I would complete his unfinished film “Bhai ka Maal hai” but I said a big NO as my self-respect didn’t allow me to join hands again with that person who once called me with cheap name” added Sofia

World Alzheimer Day
21092014RISING STATISTICAL TREND OF ALZHEMIER’S DISEASE PREVALENCE
New Delhi: 20 September 2014
In the light of the hectic lifestyles of today, it is not surprising to find a rising statistical trend of the prevalence of Alzhemier’s disease. The WHO (2007) estimates that while there are currently about 18 million people worldwide with Alzheimer’s disease, this figure is projected to nearly double by 2025, especially in the developing countries.
Dr. Samir Parikh, Director, Mental Health & Behavioural Sciences, Fortis Hospital, As we get busier in our daily lives, running behind deadlines, multitasking and getting stressed, it is fairly common for most of us to experience lapses of memory. We might not remember the deadline for a submission until the last minute, we may miss our appointment for our doctor’s visit, may forget to shop for groceries on the way back home, or might stand in front of an open cupboard and wonder what we were looking for!
While forgetfulness and memory decline is accepted as a normal part and parcel of the degenerative ageing process, it is necessary to spread an awareness of the warning signs, which could enable the earlier identification of an Alzheimer’s disease. Earlier identifications would pave the way for beginning the treatment process. Even though the deterioration caused by Alzheimer’s disease cannot be reversed or stalled, its progress can be slowed, with the provision of appropriate support networks for the person as well as the family in order to help preserve the functioning for a longer period of time.
Whenever a person is suffering from memory loss that disrupts the person’s functioning in his or her daily life, there is an indication of suspecting the diagnosis for an Alzheimer’s disease. Even though its lifetime prevalence rates are significantly higher in the older populations, nevertheless an earlier onset is not uncommon, and hence we should be aware of the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
Inability to recall previously learnt information – The most common signs of Alzheimer’s disease include misplacing things frequently, forgetting names, appointments, important dates or events; asking the same questions repeatedly. Such individuals begin to depend on others’ guidance and assistance for things they might have previously been confident of completing independently.
Difficulty in recalling vocabulary of common words – Often these people might have problems with new words both in oral as well as written forms. They might have problems in following or joining conversations, and hence would often be seen avoiding communication in social situations. They might stop in the middle of a conversation, not knowing how to continue, forgetting where they left off, and ending up repeating themselves. They can struggle to find the right word, and often get confused in spellings as well.
Social withdrawal – Such people may end up excluding themselves from social situations, in order to avoid an embarrassment due to their confused state. They avoid making conversations, and prefer staying alone.
Difficulty in recognizing familiar people – It can be very distressing for family and friends, as the person may start getting confused and misrecognizing the familiar people around them, mixing up their names, and at later stages even being unable to recognize their near and dear ones, treating them like strangers instead.
Disturbances in executive functioning – They are unable to plan and organize activities, and find it difficult to keep track of monthly accounts, forgetting the sequence of a familiar recipe, along with difficulty in concentrating on tasks, with delayed reaction times, and slower responses.
Disorientation – Such people may often get confused with time or place, losing track of days, seasons, years and even the passage of time very easily. They might forget where they are, or how they reached there, and for how long they have been there.
Daily tasks become a chore – Even familiar and routine tasks may end up becoming a challenge, as they might find it difficult to complete tasks at home, work or for leisure. Often such people do not admit that they do not recollect how to go about such mundane chores, and are even labelled as being lazy and unmotivated to complete their routine tasks.
Changes in mood and personality – People with Alzheimer’s disease usually tend to become irritable and easily upset. It is annoying for them to realize their helplessness, and this frustration often leads to suspiciousness and mistrust of others around them. They remain confused, and may also become anxious or depressed.
It is important to realize that Alzheimer’s disease does not just impact the individual’s life, but further more also has an adverse influence on the caregivers. In fact getting support from the family and friends is a vital step towards the management of Alzheimer’s disease. Since it is a progressive degeneration, enabling an earliest identification and seeking professional help is imperative to be able to reduce the pace of deterioration. With the help of medications as well as neuropsychological support, it is possible to help the individual preserve his level of functioning for a longer period of time.
The relation between memory and emotions is clearly established, and research has shown evidence for changes in lifestyle to help improve our memory.
Lifestyle management – Regular physical exercise, and adequate sleep and appetite are essential to help in reduction of our stress levels, thereby helping us stay mentally active. We should organize our daily schedule in order to manage a healthier lifestyle.
Memory aids – Using visual cues like wall charts, post-it notes, checklists, and calendar diaries helps in planning as well as remembering. Repetitive practice and mental retracing helps in learning newer information, using methods like chunking, first letter acronyms, method of loci and word games.
Intellectual stimulation – It is important not only to keep ourselves physically fit, but also mentally active. Solving Sudoku, mazes, and other puzzles, reading, or learning any novel activity like a new language or musical instrument, that makes us use activate our brain cells is the best exercise we can provide to maintain our memory.

ALASKA TV REPORTER RESIGNS ON AIR TO FIGHT FOR MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION
23092014Alaska Dispatch News reader Greene said
“Now everything you’ve heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska,” she said. “And as for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, fuck it, I quit.”

Greene soon after told the Alaska Dispatch News that KTVA was unaware of her role with the Cannabis Club or her plans to part ways with the network, and an NBC News-affiliate has since confirmed that state records show the organization is owned by Charlene Egbe — Greene’s legal name. KTVA apologized after the incident on Facebook “for the inappropriate language” and said Greene, who had been quite clear about quitting, has been terminated.
“If I offended anyone, I apologize,” Greene told ADN, “but I’m not sorry for the choice that I made.”
As footage of the incident began to circulate around the web, the Alaska Cannabis Club’s social media accounts soon directed followers to a video featuring the now-former news anchor further explaining her reasoning for resigning.
“Nearly a century of marijuana prohibition and stigma has stained America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. But we have a chance to start taking back the right,” Greene says in the clip.
“Advocating for freedom and fairness should be everyone’s duty. I’m making it my life work to uphold what America stands for truly: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness — ideals that now need to be defended,” Greene continues. “But I can’t do this alone. I need you in the very least to start the conversation. Talk to a friend, a mother, a co-worker, brother, anyone. Just share your own ‘My Marijuana’ story. Show them that we smokers are responsible, contributing members to society.”
“Changing one heart and mind at a time is the only way to legalize marijuana and bask in lady liberty’s glory,” Greene says before formally offering her endorsement of Ballot Measure 2— a law up for vote on November 4 that, if successful, will allow adults in Alaska to possess, grow and sell weed without requiring a medical script as currently state rules specify.
“The proposed initiative will take marijuana sales out of the underground market and put them in legitimate, taxpaying businesses,” Tim Hinterberger, a sponsor of the bill and a developmental biology professor at the University of Alaska, previously told the Huffington Post. “Replacing marijuana prohibition with a system of taxation and sensible regulation will bolster Alaska’s economy by creating jobs and generating revenue for the state.”
If Alaskans vote ‘yes’ on Ballot 2 — an effort that Greene says is a “a vote for liberty, freedom and fairness” — then the state will become the third in the US after Colorado and Washington to allow adults to legally purchase and possess restricted amounts of marijuana for recreational purposes. Federally speaking, however, pot sale and cultivation remains illegal. RT news

Conspiracy exposed – Victim was unaware that her FIR included Mayank Gandhi
22092014Conspiracy exposed – Victim was unaware that her FIR included Mayank Gandhi
In shocking developments it has come to light that some conspirators used a hapless victim to falsely accuse Mayank Gandhi and others from Aam Aadmi Party of totally baseless charges. It is becoming clear that those unable to fight fair political battles resort to slander and defamation to malign AAP leaders, Alka Lamba and Mayank Gandhi have been victimized through totally false and spurious charges.
In Mayank Gandhi’s case the complainant was totally unaware that his name was being mentioned as accused. She is a young lady AAP volunteer who was encouraged to file a police complaint by a certain group of people led by Sunil Shukla (they were AAP members but quit AAP on 18 September 2014). They did not tell the lady they quit AAP and took her on 19 September to file the complaint. She accused one Tarun Singh of harassment and mentioned in her statement that the moment she brought the matter to Mayank Gandhi he suspended the youth and initiated an inquiry.
The lady was totally unaware of how complaints are filed, never having visited a police station in her life. The conspirators assured her they knew the process. It took more than six hours for the police to record her statement and she was getting very late. The conspirators along with police made the poor lady sign blank FIR forms and assured her she could leave! She left without any copy of her statement or FIR.
In her absence they twisted her statement and added the names of AAP national leader Mayank Gandhi, AAP state leader Ruben Masacarenhas and AAP volunteer Vinay Mishra. The victim was shocked when she learned through social media that she has made a complaint against Mayank Gandhi and totally denied it – “I have made no complaint against Mayank Gandhi, Ruben Mascarenhas, and Vinay Mishra not of molestation, not of harassment, nor intimidation.”
She approached the seniors in the party and explained how she was misled totally and was distraught that she was being blamed for maligning the name of Mayank Gandhi. She asked party seniors to help her clarify her true position and they advised her to visit the Commissioner of Police and state the facts as she knew them. Today at noon she met the Joint Commissioner Law and Order and her statement is attached. AAP Maharashtra stands vindicated that no complaint whatsoever was filed by the complainant against Mayank Gandhi, Ruben Mascarenhas or Vinay Mishra.
Being fully seized of the matter now, AAP Maharashtra is remorseful that we thought that the complainant made false allegations but that was what appeared in the FIR page 1 which was widely circulated by the conspirators. We understand now that the young lady was used most shamelessly by the conspirators and AAP will ensure she faces no more harassment. We will fight for justice for her and we will take strong action against anyone who attempts to malign her. We request all the media to ensure that her identity is not exposed under any circumstances.
Enclosed: The copy of Complainant Statement to Commissioner of Police, Mumbai.

Latest revelations on AIIMS CVO removal issue expose BJP lies.
25092014From: Media Cell AAP <mediacellaap@gmail.com> Wed, 24 Sep ’14 6:46p

The BJP’s mysterious silence on the latest revelations exposing union health minister Harsh Vardhan and party general secretary JP Nadda, have nailed all lies spread by the ruling party on the issue of whistleblower officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi.
The health minister resorted to repeated lies when he was caught off guard on the issue of removing Chaturvedi from the post of Chief Vigilance Officer of AIIMS.
The minister is now evading the issue and is silent along with his entire party, since the BJP’s attempts to trample the AIIMS autonomy through its naked political interference to protect a bureaucrat facing serious corruption charges, is now fully exposed.
The health minister misled the country when he had stated last month that Chaturvedi was shifted as AIIMS CVO since the Central Vigilance Commission had objected to his appointment.
It has now become clear that Harsh Vardhan’s claim was wrong and the CVC did not at any time object to the appointment. Importantly, however, he hid the fact that BJP general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, JP Nadda had written to him in June seeking Chaturvedi’s removal.
Nadda’s interference did not stop merely at seeking the removal of Chaturvedi from the post of CVO, it now transpires that he even suggested a name for his replacement.
The Aam Aadmi Party challenges health minister Harsh Vardhan and BJP to answer the following questions :
1) Can the health minister deny that he received a letter from BJP leader JP Nadda in June ?
2) Is it not a fact that Nadda demanded removal of Sanjeev Chaturvedi from the post of CVO AIIMS ?
3) Can Harsh Vardhan deny that Nadda wanted probes into corruption cases initiated by Chaturvedi dropped ?
4) Can the health minister deny that he received a reminder from Nadda in July stressing that the AIIMS CVO be changed ?
5) Can he deny that under pressure from the BJP his ministry initiated the process to remove Chaturvedi withing 24 hours in August ?
6) Why is Nadda shying away from revealing his interest in saving Mr Vineet Choudhary ?
7) What was Nadda’s locus in suggesting his choice as replacement of Chaturvedi ?
8) What is the BJP stand on its senior leader asking for probes in corruption cases to be scuttled ?
This episode involving Harsh Vardhan and Nadda has brought to the fore, the BJP’s direct compromise with corruption. The response of BJP on whether these two will continue in their positions is awaited. (ENDS)

Kashmir Flood Relief by AAP Maharashtra
25092014Kashmir has been devastated by the worst floods the nation has seen in six decades. The entire nation is indebted to the Indian Army for having gone beyond the call of duty to save lives. Aam Aadmi Party and its volunteers are also making every effort possible to help Kashmiris in these difficult times. Dr Raja Muzaffer Bhat, eminent activist, columnist and AAP Loksabha Candidate from Srinagar and his entire team have been working relentlessly on relief and rescue work. They have been risking their lives and going to areas that have been left unaided by the government agencies.
AAP Maharashtra has also been contributing to Dr Bhat’s efforts and we will continue to do so as long as our brothers and sisters in Kashmir require our assistance. So far, AAP Maharashtra has despatched monetary help as well as supplies. In the shortest possible period, with limited resources, our team put together a huge amount of essential supplies. We are greatly satisfied and proud of the fact that when our fellow countrymen needed us, AAP stepped up and took upon itself this enormous task. We thank the airlines which have agreed to carry relief material free of cost.
Here is a list of items that AAP Maharashtra has already sent:
– Funds to purchase packaged water
– Boat, life jackets & safety jackets
– Food grains
– Medicines and medical supplies
– Pumps to spray disinfectants & sanitation
– Blankets, tents, candles
We appeal to all citizens to help AAP in aiding the relief work in Kashmir.

Volkswagen launches new Vento, 1.5 TDI Turbo-Diesel
25092014Volkswagen launches new Vento, 1.5 TDI Turbo-Diesel now available with 7-Speed DSG Automatic
- New Volkswagen Vento now available with all-new 1.5-litre TDI engines, with 7-Speed DSG Automatic transmission
- New features include dual front airbags on all variants, dual-beam headlamps, upgraded instrument panel, redesigned alloy wheels, footwell lights, and flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel
- New colours for the Vento line-up include Toffee Brown and Night Blue. New Vento available at selected Volkswagen showrooms across India from 24th September 2014 onwards, ex-showroom prices (Mumbai) start at Rs 7.44 lakh
Delhi, September 24, 2014: Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, announces the launch of the new Vento, one of the most refined, well-built, safe and technologically advanced sedans available in India. To suit a wide range of requirements and driving preference, the new Vento is available with a range of four-cylinder engines – 1.6 MPI, 1.2 TSI and 1.5 TDI powerplants, all of which offer an excellent blend of power, performance and fuel economy.
In response to popular demand for advanced, refined diesel automatics, the new Vento 1.5 TDI is now available with Volkswagen’s technologically advanced 7-Speed Dual-Clutch DSG automatic transmission, a feature that is unique in this segment. Volkswagen’s 7-Speed DSG has two clutches; Clutch 1 handles odd-numbered gears, Clutch 2 handles even-numbered gears plus reverse gear. As a result of this sophisticated clutch management, there are no gaps in propulsive power and power delivery remains uninterrupted. The “lag” that is sometimes associated with conventional automatics is non-existent with the DSG.
In addition to providing outstanding driving dynamics as explained above, Volkswagen’s 7-Speed DSG, with its perfectly timed and perfectly executed gearshifts, also helps with improving fuel economy and lowering emissions. With closely-spaced ratios, the new Vento’s DSG transmission makes the best possible use of Volkswagen’s 1.5 TDI and 1.2 TSI engines’ power delivery, and provides smooth, seamless acceleration at all speeds.

Other engines in the new Vento line-up are also similarly accomplished.
The 1.2 TSI engine produces 103 horsepower and 175Nm of torque, and delivers 16.93kpl in terms of fuel economy. The 1.6 MPI engine produces 103 horsepower and 153Nm of torque, and returns 15.04kpl.
Other changes on the new Vento include dual front airbags on all variants, redesigned 15-inch alloy wheels, and new, more powerful dual-beam headlamps.
